do you have any comments on this?....
|
|
| Quote: | DAYANG Nurfaizah, who was booted out of 8TV’s reality talent search programme One In a Million (OIAM) last Friday, has given the organiser some food for thought. She suggested that they change the name of the programme to The Most Popular One In A Million.
But don’t get her wrong. She is not a sore loser. She feels that the viewers are not voting for the right reasons.
“Maybe the voting system needs to be revised as it gives viewers the power to eliminate the ones they’re not supporting,” she said.
Unlike other reality talent search shows, in which voters can only vote for their favourites, in OIAM, fans can also vote out contestants they do not like.
“The system distracts people from voting for the right reason — one’s talent,” she said.
She wants the organiser and viewers to take her criticism constructively.
“My comments are not out of bitterness but my honest take on the programme.”
“I have no regrets at all. If I’m going to regret my involvement with One In A Million, I wouldn’t even have taken part in the first place,” she said.
“People have asked me why I downgraded myself by taking part in the competition. The thing is, One In A Million is a platform for me to move forward,” she added.
Dayang broke down on TV after it was announced that she had been eliminated but she said her emotion reflected her disappointment.
Shocked by the viewers’ verdict, she could not fight back her tears as she performed her farewell number at the start of last Friday’s show.
“I was hoping to at least make it to the finals. But hey, life goes on. That’s not the end of my career. As a matter of fact, I was already in the recording studio the following day to work on my new album,” she said.
What led to her elimination? “I could have been seen as a threat to other contestants.”
Looking back at the whole idea of the show, there are some truths to what Dayang said.
One in A Million was supposed to be a local singing talent search reality show that aspires to discover the best and most talented singer in the country.
At stake is RM1 million singing contract as well as the best album production, the best marketing strategies and the best of just about everything.
Dayang had even pushed aside her commitment to star in Luka, a Malaysian-Indonesian joint-venture feature film, which postponed shooting from June to early next year.
She will act alongside popular Indonesian actress Dian Sastrowardoyo.
